Time is flying already
Wow! Jack is already 10 days old. It is hard to believe. Today was Kevin's first day back at work and my first day alone with Jack. We didn't do too bad except he hardly slept all day. Everyone says that all newborns do is sleep, but that is not the case with Jack. He seems like he is awake more than asleep. He is good when he is awake, except he wants to be held all the time, which makes it a little challenging to get anything done! My mom and sister are on their way here. They will be staying with us until Saturday! I know they are both excited to be here and see Jack!
We are still trying to get Jack on a schedule, but so far no such luck. I think we might be trying too hard. We forget that he is only 10 days old. I know it will take time, I just need to be patient.
His cord fell off today, so we will now be able to actually give him a bath instead of just a sponge bath, so maybe he will like it a little more! Since he finally fell asleep today at 7:00 p.m. after being up for 5 hours, we are skipping the bath tonight.
Kevin and I are looking forward to Friday night. My mom and Kassie said they will babysit so we can go out to eat! (We have to take advantage of things like this!) I know they are thrilled to watch him and it will be a nice break for us!
I have been trying to add pictures to this post but for some reason it won't let me! So stay tuned to pictures from the past week!

Big Day
Isn't he just the cutest! This is from his first bath the other night!
What an eventful day! Jack had his first doctor's appointment this morning. Everything went well. He weighs 6 lbs 15 oz. ( which is 4 oz more than when he left the hospital.) They claim he gained a 1/2 inch since we left the hospital, however, I don't think that is possible. I still think the hospital measured him wrong, but oh well, I'm not too concerned! The doctor thought he looked good and healthy and we go back when he is a month old.
Side note: All along, I have wanted to breast feed. We took a class on how to do it and didn't buy any formula before hand because we had every intention of making breastfeeding happen. Well Jack had other intentions. From the first time I tried breastfeeding when he was about 30 minutes old until the day we left the hospital, he would not latch on. He would do it for a few seconds and then stop. We tried everything. Each shift of nurses someone came in and gave me their 2 cents worth, but nothing helped! So the last night we were there, we made the decision to bottle feed. It was a hard decision for me, but I wanted to make sure our baby boy was eating. So they loaded us up with some small bottles of Similac and we began bottle feeding.
Now, fast forward to yesterday: well my milk supply decided to come in! And when I say come in, I mean I have enough milk for several babies. I never thought I would have this much milk since he never latched on. Well, because I already had a breast pump, I decided to start pumping. So far it has worked out great! Every time we feed Jack, I pump and then we bottle it and give it to him at the next feeding. On average I am getting about 6 oz. every time I pump, which for right now, is plenty of milk. So, I am not breastfeeding, but Jack is getting breast milk, which I am very happy about. Its also nice because Kevin or whoever else can help feed Jack. In addition, my boobs are enormous! I have been waiting my whole life for this...its great! hehe
Ok, back to today. After the doctor's we went to the hospital to get more parts for our breast pump. We then went to get Kevin's contacts. We were gone for about 2 hours and Jack slept the entire time. He really seems to like riding in the car!
We came back here and had someone come over to do a photo shoot with Jack. Although, Jack wasn't too excited about getting his picture taken. She took 646 pictures and I think he cried in 600 of them. I am crossing my fingers that some of them came out because we were really looking forward to them.
Now we are just trying to relax. Kevin is baking a cake for a dessert we are making. Jack is sound asleep on the boppy and I am just trying to relax ( I think I overdid it today!)
Tomorrow Kevin's family is coming to spend sometime with us! We are looking forward to that. Then my dad is coming Monday, my aunt and uncle are coming Tuesday and my mom and sis are coming Wed. - Sat. to help out since Kevin has to go back to work on Wednesday. (boo)

Introducing Jack Robert
He is here! Most of you already know this because it has been all over facebook, but in case you didn't. . . Jack Robert DeWeese was born at 12:25 p.m. on Sunday, April 18th. He is a very healthy 7 lbs 6oz. He was 20 inches long. He has a full head of light brown, wavy hair! He is not sure how he likes breastfeeding right now, so we are in the process of deciding if we just want to give him formula instead.
He is absolutely perfect. Its amazing how much love we had for him instantly! We were lucky that both of our families were here in time to be here when he was born. Everyone is so happy he is here. We can't wait to take him out and show him off!
I had a very easy labor except for the pushing part! I started having contractions around 1:15am Sunday morning. We called the doctor at 3:30 when my contractions intensified and were coming every 3-5 minutes. We were admitted into labor and delivery at 5:00 am and I was already 5-6 cm. dilated. By 6:00, I was a good 6 cm and I decided to have an epidural to help me be more comfortable. I quickly moved to 8 cm and by 10:00 am I was a full 10! At 10:15 they had me start pushing and at that point they said it wouldn't be long till he was here...haha...wrong! I pushed, and I pushed and Jack was not coming. I thought for sure I was doing something wrong, but they continued to tell me I was doing great! After 2 hours of pushing, he was finally born and we determined that part of the problem was he had his hand by his face, so not only was I pushing his head into position but his hand as well. (We have now determined that Jack really likes his hands by his face and he is most happy when he is in the "thinking" position!)
The next part was the worst! Everyone told me that delivering the placenta was the easy part, but not for me! The cord came detached from the placenta, so they couldn't get it out! I was unable to hold him because the doctor had to go inside after it! That took forever and was extremely painful! She also had a hard time getting my uterus to contract so I was bleeding a lot. Once it finally contracted, then I still needed stitches. Needless to say, it was a huge ordeal and I have been very sore since! I am doing well now! Still in a little pain, but it was all worth it to have this wonderful little miracle! I would do it all again!
We are getting ready to go home today! I am so excited to introduce Jack to everything! We will keep you posted, but for now, here are a few pictures for everyone to enjoy!

The News
The news is...there is no news. Had my 39 week appointment today and there is no change. Still 3 1/2 cm. dilated. She said I am definately having real contractions, which I now know what they feel like, they just need to last longer and build in intensity. So for now, I will keep talking to "Jimmy" and encouraging him to come out and in the mean time I will deal with the back pain and pressure!

FYI
Just in case you were wondering...I am still pregnant. I was having contractions on Friday but they were very irregular and then stopped. Kevin and I spent the morning cleaning and then we went for a long walk tonight, but still nothing. Kevin's parents came tonight and took us out to dinner. No offense to them, but I was really hoping that the next time we saw them I would have a baby boy in my arms...but no such luck! So the waiting game continues. I guess he is in charge right now and makes the decision as to when to come into this world...until then...we just have to wait!

38 weeks!
Wow! I have been pregnant for 38 weeks. Only 14 days to go (or less...hopefully!) Here's another survey for everyone! We will continue to keep you posted on any progress I am making.
How far along: 38 weeks
How big is baby: between 6-7 pounds
Weight gain: 34 lbs...I am starting to slow down on how much I am gaining. I still don't know where the 34 lbs. are on my body...I am all belly!
Maternity clothes: of course!
Stretch Marks: yes! Unfortunately. Hoping that no more decided to pop out!
Sleep: I tend to sleep well every other night. One night I will sleep really well, the next I only get about 3 hours!
Best Moment of the week: Going to the doctor and hearing that I am already 3 1/2 cm dilated! It was also great to go to Piqua last weekend and be with all of Kevin's family. I got to meet some new relatives and it was great to go and get my mind off the whole baby thing.
Signs of labor: 3 1/2 cm dilated, 85% effaced, lots of braxton hicks contractions, lots of pressure and I have mastered the waddle. All I need are some real contractions and we will be set!
What I miss: seeing my ankles. Right now my legs and feet just run together. I also miss wearing my wedding rings. I hope that my fingers go back to their normal size so I can wear it again soon!
Cravings: nothing special. I am not as hungry as I used to be. I am running out of room for food!
Belly button: OUT!
What I am looking forward to: Our baby boy! Hurry up little guy, we want to meet you!

Good news!
So I had my 38 week appointment today and I have made more progress! I am now 3 1/2 cm dilated and 85% effaced. The doctor said I am making good progress and thought it could be any time now. She did say that if I make it to my appointment next week, we would start talking about being induced. So I will be taking lots of walks, running up and down the stairs and making sure everything is ready because it would be great if he came before next Wednesday.
I have had a lot of things to get done at work in preparation for everything. I am happy to say, I have done everything that I needed to do, so our baby boy can come when he is ready!
I will keep everyone posted!!

37 weeks
Today I am 37 weeks..that is technically full term so if our little man decides to make his grand entrance ...that is a o k with me! I went to the doctor yesterday and made a little bit of progress. I am now 2 1/2 cm. dilated and 80% effaced. She also said that I have lost most if not all of my mucus plug. The doctor said it could be 2 days or 2 weeks from now.
This weekend Kevin's family is all coming to Piqua. I asked the doctor if it was ok to travel and she said that we shouldn't spend the night but we could go for the day provided I wasn't haven't contractions before and if I started having contractions while we are there, we need to leave immediately. So I am glad she gave me the ok to go because it will be nice to be with everyone and even meet some of them for the first time. Too bad "Jimmy" isn't here yet to join in the fun!
I am looking forward to having tomorrow off. I am getting my hair cut and then getting some last minute things together for the hospital...just in case. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend as far as weather goes...looking forward to enjoying it. (Maybe take a few walks to get labor going!)
